Watch Band Spring Bar RemoverReviewsThis didn't work. It immediately broke. I ended up using a very small screw driver and that did the job. Just the tool you need to change watch bands. Amazing how easy things are when you have the right tool. This tool was so easy to use, my husband was able to wear his new watch minutes after opening his gift instead of waiting for a jeweler to size it and then paying for the service. Very handy! Excellent little tool for removing those pesky spring bars. If you've ever tried to install and replace a watch band using a pocketknife, you know how annoying and difficult a project that should be simple can be. This tool works well and makes that simple project simple - both taking the old band off and installing the new one. No home should be without one. This product worked just fine, allowing me to quickly and easily change the straps on two watches, saving me a trip to the watch shop and the money the watch smith surely would have charged me to do the swap himself. Color me satisfied. Average Rating:![]() |

540 Ct - Zeiss Lens Cleaning Cloths for Cameras, Microscopes, Glasses (6 Pack) Pre-moistenedReviewsMy local Wal Mart stopped selling these wipes so I turned to the net. Amazon sells them much cheaper. Best value I've found. These wipes are great for cleaning my son's glasses. They are the perfect size & they aren't too wet. They dry quick & don't leave marks. They are easy to open so even he can open them at 6 years old. I would recommend this wipes. Great little cleaners for glasses. i use these cloths daily. My glasses have scothguard and anti-glare coatings. these cloths are perfect for cleaning them. These wipes are the best I've tried. I first picked them up at Sam's club, which by the way, has the best price. They work great on my glasses and on my lenses! The "Zeiss Lens Cloths" are just about the best and most convenient lens cleaner I have found. We use very high grade digital still and video cameras in our business and trust these cleaners to get the lenses clean without removing the protective coatings. We also wear glasses and these also work great on them as well, leaving no streaking at all. Highly recommended! Average Rating:![]() |

Under The MicroscopeReviewsI heard Jessicas Bullet on Sirus radio. I bought the album right away and loved the whole thing. Listening to it is like eating tasty and delicious sandwich. Heard them play Jessie's Bullet on XM radio and they blew me away! However, after I bought the CD, I discovered that there was no BASS PLAYER! Gr-r-r-r!! But there are some fantastic guitar solos and an overall nice fusion of melodies with an upbeat funky feel, so I had to forgive them (albeit grudgingly because I'm a bassist) and give them 4 stars. If you're new to fusion jazz, I would recommend this CD as a great intro to "get your feet wet" as this group is well worth checking out. Bottom line - as long as YOU like the music, nothing else matters. DO YOU LIKE FUNK WITH YOUR JAZZ? DO YOU LIKE FUSION WITH YOUR FUNK? DO YOU LIKE GROOVE WITH YOUR FUSION? BUY THIS CD, NOW!!! 10x 21mm Triplet Jewelers Loupe w/leather case - BlackReviewsMy husband is a geologist, I m interested in Petrology...these lenses are of great quality and the price is a bargain...my husband is also a astronomer and has made his own lenses...and was so impressed by the quality of these lenses that he has sort of taken ownership over them, might have to get another one for me. Dr. AkagiReviewsThis is not a film for everyone. It sets up a challenging mix of expectations and continually crosses from one genre's conventions to another. It is definitely for film lovers who like something far out of the ordinary. Set in war-time Japan, this story of a doctor literally on the run in his efforts to unravel the mystery of an epidemic of hepatitis among his patients, could be taking place anywhere in this war-torn world today. Resources are in short supply, and everywhere there is violence and fear triggered by the embrace of militarism. The doctor, a heroic figure, is surrounded in this film by the outcasts of society - a prostitute, an opium addict, an escaped prisoner of war. Cheered by recognition from his colleagues in the medical profession that his work is valued and important, he is left with little to make a difference in the world, except his determination to do the best he can. The sudden shifts of mood in the film, the use of a noisy jazz score, the outbursts of violence, scenes of sexual tension, the heartfelt moments as characters reach out with tenderness to each other, all provide a jumble of conflicting impressions that reflect the chaotic world it mirrors. There's not a single point of view in the film though it ends emphatically with the detonation of an atomic bomb on the horizon, as the doctor and his assistant float in an open boat in the sea (an image that brings to mind the end of Ingmar Bergman's "Shame"). The film cries out to be viewed again for there is much too much to absorb in a single viewing. The setting for this film is in Japan, circa 1945. The Japanese military are near the point of surrender. However, the war against hepatitis wages on, and one Doctor is struggling to wage a war of his own. Enter Dr. Akagi (Akira Emoto) whose own battle with a hepatitis epidemic are just as important as the Imperial Japanese army. While the empire is struggling in a losing cause, life goes on for Dr. Akagi; as he enlists the help of various people into his cuase to irradicate, or at least minimize the near hopeless situation he finds himself in. Obsessed with liver disorders, Dr. Akagi is called Dr. Liver by the townspeople he administers to. Those helping the Doctor are a morphine addicted surgeon, a former prostitute, and an escaped Dutch prisoner-of-war. The main task of Dr. Akagi is trying to heal his patients and identifying the cause of hepatitis. In the midst of all this, there is the ever present tension of the Japanese military who are stationed in the village where the Doctor resides. Although there are comical elements in the film [in the begining] things change dramatically when a lack of medications and food become more pronounced. Also, factor in the fanaticism and brutality of the military, and the film becomes much more darker. Plus, the fact that the film alludes to the medical experiments the Japanese have conducted on the Chinese in Manchuria, make this a much more interesting film. Eventually, Dr. Akagi begins to question whether he is making a difference in life. This matter is resolved when the Doctor begins to make a renewed commitment as a family Doctor. The films ending is a bit surreal, when while returning to the village after caring for a patient, the Doctor and his housekeeper see an ominous cloud in the far distance: The Atomic bomb has been dropped. The film had many elements which one does not see in too many Japanese films. This is a very good film, and well worth the purchase. Rent it first to see if you would like to add it to your collection. Highly recommended. Like Imamura's The Eel, Dr. Akagi is a film in which likable characters and unusual circumstance come together to create scenes of uncontrived humanity. Usually in movies you know when you are supposed to feel emotional. The camera starts to slowly zoom in on Tom Hanks' fixed gaze, the music comes in softly... I can feel my eyes beginning to tear just thinking about it. Well you will get none of that b.s. in the world of Imamura. He purposely holds the camera back as not to let the viewer become to intimate with the characters. When they become emotional or say something profound, it isn't dwelled upon. Scenes of humanity can quickly cut to scenes of humor. Basically Dr. Akagi is a good guy. While his country flounders in a losing war, he's running from patient to patient trying to unravel the secrets of hepatitis. In addition to this he has reluctantly agreed to help a young prostitute, by hiring her as his assistant. His friends include a morphine addicted surgeon, a horny priest, and an escaped european POW. Like I said earlier; likable characters and unusual circumstance. The way the story unfolds has to be seen to be understood and the ending is an enigmatic and rewarding celebration of it all. This movie is odd but accessible, heartfelt but never cheesy, funny and emotional. All and all another great and totally original work from Shohei Imamura. Vengence of Mine was my first exposure to Shohei Imamura, a tautly amazing movie full of dark humor, fearful violence, sexual tension and deep questions about life (note: this movie, among any other, absolutely deserves to be released on DVD). Dr. Akagi explores many of the same themes from the angle of a more dignified and admirable protagonist, a widower physician in a small fishing village whose life work is to tend to the many locals who are falling ill with hepititis, a disease whose pathology and means of transmission are not yet understood. It also presents an interesting view of wartime Japan in a village removed from the immediate devastation of the war, how life goes on as it typically does but with the war slowly intruding more and more into the people's daily lives until it literally explodes above their heads. The director's great talent, in my opinion, is how he never judges his subjects, whether because the person is a whore, a morphine addict, an embezzler, a dissolute drunkard or pervert. He depicts them as they are. The characters and situations depicted in this movie seem to me very authentic representations of the Japanese character, in its multiplicity, and that's part of what makes it a delight to watch. Dr. Akagi is the most intriguing one of all the characters, as he goes through not one but two personal transformations in the movie that are so subtle at first that you fail to notice them until the movie comes together neatly at the end yet leaves the question, what motivates us to do the things that we do in life, what's our purpose in life and what keeps us alive. Of course, the answer is never clear, and the movie does not shy from that reality. The cinemetography is also very nice, especially the scenes with the whale at the end which are simply beautiful and imbuded with mythos in a scene in which director wonderfully transforms the village whore and daughter of a fisherman into the mythical woman that reawakens Dr. Akagi to his life. Beautifully done. Only complaint: the jazz soundtrack is a bit overly intrusive and excessive. That should have been toned down a bit, but otherwise, a very moving and poignant film. Not much I can add to the review by C. O. DeRiemer-which gives most of the pertinent information-except to say that I also recommend this movie. The movie openly hints at atrocities committed by the Japanese military in Manchuria-including vivisection-without quite making an admission of Japanese guilt. As it is, the evils of militarism are exposed-especially in the maltreatment of Dr Akagi and his cohorts after they are found to be treating a Dutch POW--who is brutally treated by a sadistic member of the Japanese military who won't admit that the defeat of Japan is imminent. The beginning of this movie does move a little slowly-but by the middle until the end it is quite interesting. Highly recommended--though this dvd suffers from subtitles which are frequently hard to read (white letters against a light background) Average Rating:![]() |

Shapes of the InvisibleReviewsI purchased this DVD to use with my Living Environ. High School students. I had to use the DVD's menu, in order to skip around to the more relevent items (geared toward Biology topics). After viewing the 4-5 items, I had to end the DVD; since things were becoming rather too much of the same. The novelty of viewing things at 100,000X (times normal sight) had definitely worn thin by this time...it was becoming rather tedious! Average Rating:![]() |

Fertile Focus Ovulation MicroscopeReviewsI bought this product on a recommendation from my best friend who swears by the validity of this contraption. I am absolutely certain that I used the product correctly to the last spit drop bc even she called/texted me to make sure I was doing the correct thing. I've also been charting my BBT. This microscope tests LH in your saliva which shows as a ferning pattern when viewed through the microscope. Alas, no ferning... I got 'transitional' but then it did nothing different and went back to showing nothing. Had it not been for my back-up OPK (which measures LH surges in your urine), I would not have been able to predict ovulation. The OPK coincided with my BBT charts but the microscope didn't give me any more clarity to what I already knew. The product does say that not all women ovulate every month, but my ovulution prediction kit says otherwise. With no way of returning I am a bit bummed about losing the $[...] bucks (I could buy more OPKs instead!). I would like to think that this microscope works but bc it did not work for me I am inclined not to rate it well. It may work for someone else. I bought this microscope a year ago to begin tracking my cycles. I wanted something that would be more environmentally friendly than OPK (urine testers), which are thrown away each month. I had also used a basal thermometer, which I hated. Pros: -easy to use, just pull out the lens, lick or spit on it, let it dry, slide it in and press the light to see. You don't have to focus it each time as long as you don't turn the screw between the lens and the magnifier, which will change the focus. -ferning pattern is obvious and distinctive. I'm not sure what those people are doing who can't get it to work-- it's not that hard. -no waste Cons: -battery and bulb are not replaceable. If either one dies, you're buying a new microscope. -my case cracked after a few months of use. (It's still usable.) -PLEASE NOTE, a positive test does NOT necessarily mean that you are ovulating that day or even the next day. You can get a positive ferning test as far as 5 days before ovulation. That's not very accurate. So, please, don't rely on this thing exclusively to track the timing of your ovulation. After a year I am still using this microscope, but more as a back up. For really tracking my cycles accurately and knowing definitively when I ovulate I rely on disposable OPK sticks that you dip into a cup of urine. (Yes, in spite of the waste they generate.) i was desperate. figured i didn't have much to lose. ended up losing hard earned money as this thing just didn't perform as promised. better luck peeing on the ovulation sticks. I love this product! It's much easier than the OPK strips! (And it's cheaper because you only have to buy it once!) I highly recommend it! :) It arrived a few days prior to my ovulation. So the first day I did it, it was negative. The 2nd day it was a "partial" with a few small ferns (kinda look more like snowflakes to me). Then the 3rd and 4th day I used it, I got big huge sharp ferns! This totally coincided with my positive OPK test and my BBT charting, so the combination of all those things tells me that it's working! For many of the people who say it doesn't work for them, you might have some hormone imbalances that could be affecting your estrogen levels. I would recommend consulting with your doctor. It's 98% accurate for predicting ovulation, so there must be some kind of explanation as to why it's not working for you. Also remember that you can't use it right after eating, drinking or brushing your teeth. I have been checking it everyday, but I have never seen anything. I only see green light. (After I get up, no drinking, no eating) I guess that I just cannot get an focus. But I cannot find which point is correct. Average Rating:![]() |

5 1/2" MAGNIFIER optical tool - MAP & NEWSPAPER - w/ergonomic cushion grip handleReviewsMy 92 y/o grandmother read the newspaper everyday, front to back, but needed assistance reading it. The magnifying glass helped her with her entertainment. i am a physician and i use magnifiers to look at lesions on the skin. My big complaint is that the glass is blurry. i tried to clean it multiple times before i realized that it was polished poorly. to make matters worse they are extremely heavy. do not buy this product. the saying you get what you pay for is true. i bought these because they were less expensive, they are terrible. I had cataract surgery and have been dealing with "adjustments" for 6 months. I finally broke down and thought I'd get a "glass" that could help with the "fine print", well, I got a great tool as well as a surprise. I was thinking it would be a plastic lens, to my surprise, IT IS GLASS AND VERY CLEAR! Awesome for reading everything from menus to computer screens! Excellent service and product! Do not buy this product if you need something to read small print. The size is perfect but the magnification is very weak. I am extremely disappointed. I have a 2" magnifier that is so much more powerful. I wear reading glasses and I can read small print without them using the small 2" magnifier. I can't say the same for this 5-1/2 magnifier. Even with my glasses, the print is extremely hard to read. It might as well be window glass. Do not purchase. Also, the box it came in did not have any packing material and was split down one side. All in all, I think I am going to return this product. Very heavy. Poor magnification. Cushioned handle slips back and forth and feels as if it may come off. No protective storage for large glass surface. Average Rating:![]() |

USB Digital Computer MicroscopeReviewsI love this thing. I use it to see and document small details on my coins, knife, and Gun collections. It is great for seeing things that normally are missed and go unseen. And I can keep a digital image of it all. It is a will cool toy as well. Got this USB microscope. Though I am satisfied with the magnification, I am disappointed due to the following issues: a) focus wheel is very tight - disturbs the position of the microscope everytime when you try to focus b) image capture button on the microscope is very rigid. Pressing the "capture" button moves the microscope. You can not get a clean image at the highest magnification. c) watch out for a 2-3 seconds delay between "pressing the capture button" and actual image appearance on the screen. d) PC software could have been better - like "snap shot" etc. We purchased the Scope for use in documenting imperfections in electronic hardware, but are using it to create work instructions, and other production documentation. The photos are 1.3 MPix which provides the needed resolution for our purpose. The scope also works as a close-up camera for email photo's. There are better out there, but for the price we can have a scope at each inspection station. The USB connection make connection to the computers simple and easy. No problems and we have had the scopes in place for almost a year. Received this several days ago and so far am reasonably happy with it. What was recieved was a Digimicro brand digital USB microscope. When considering this bear in mind that this is a low-cost item and so don't expect miracles with it, but depending on what you plan to do with it and as long as you understand its limitations this is a good product. Focusing the scope uses a combination of a manual wheel and adjusting the distance to the object. My reason for purchasing this product is to help with identification of insect specimens (not in the field - I'll collect them and then ID them indoors, so this doesn't have to be outdoor-rugged). I figured this scope was inexpensive enough that if something happens to it I wouldn't be out a lot of money and if it works for what I want it for I'll get a useful tool to help me get a close look at small features that are key in telling the difference between families of insects and photograph them. As it's winter now I won't be able to use it in that way for a few months, but I've used it so far to look at various things around the house - coins, paper, cloth, hair, and so on. Some Pros: software is included that allows you to tweak the images (hue, contrast, etc) for a bit better picture, but you can also just plug and play without using the software - as soon as you get it, plug it into your USB port and you're good to go, you just won't be able to tweak the images. The photos are decent, in my opinion - with the software and some experimentation with light levels you can get a good picture. The scope itself has LED lights with two light levels, but sometimes you can get a decent look without using the lights, depending on what you're looking at. The key in my opinion is to experiment and not get frustrated if you don't get a good image the first try! No batteries - it is powered through your USB port, so you don't need to worry about having batteries on hand or changing them. Cons: At least so far I can't seem to use it to capture video. Since I'm not particularly interested in taking video images, this isn't much of a negative for me personally and it may be that I just haven't figured out how to do it correctly yet, but if that's the case then it's not intuitive. Light colored items and reflective items tend to wash out when using the LED lights, but with some experimentation with the accompanying software, turning off the lights or using an alternative light source can help reduce those issues. Again, I think the key with this thing is going to be to try different settings, light levels, etc. The photo button and focus wheel both are stiff and can make it tricky to keep steady while taking a photo while using it free-hand. Alternatively on taking a photo you can use the mouse and click the option to take a photo on your computer screen, but that requires holding the scope steady with one hand, while mousing and clicking with the other - a bit like rubbing your stomach and patting your head but doable. A suggestion is to have the arrow already in the right place so that all you need to do is hit the mouse button. It takes a moment for the image to capture, so you do not want to move for a couple of seconds after hitting the (either mouse or camera) button. On the whole, I think it'll do the job I want it for, but there are a few negatives to put up with. As I said before, keep in mind that this is an inexpensive model, and keep your expectations modest with that in mind. Average Rating:![]() |

USB Digital Microscope with 300x MagnificationReviewsHave enjoyed using te scope with coins and almost eveything else. Would appreciate a better instruction manual but otherwise I highly reccomend. PROS: - USB powered; no power cables or batteries required. - Stand included - LED lighting with 3 modes (off, low, bright) - Video Capture capability - Snapshot capability - Adjustable focus CONS: - Stand isn't heavy enough to allow full extension of boom - Short focal length makes it tedious to view objects with varying depth levels - Focal adjustment knob tends to readjust for a few moments after being set MYTHS: - Myth: Video capture mode similar to a cheap webcam - Truth: It's quite nice, indeed. Simply adjust the framerate with the included software. 90fps looks great. - Myth: USB Digital Microscope with 300x Magnification (as advertised) - Truth: USB Digital Microscope with 200x Magnification (as packaged) I like this little gizmo and I consider myself quite particular when it comes to electronics. Definitely worth the cost, although it's not "lab quality" equipment. If you want lab quality, then avoid USB microscopes altogether ;) The USB microscope I received is utterly useless. It does not zoom from 20X to 200X as advertised. It is fixed at 200X. The focal length is too short to be useful. The lens keeps falling out, and the image quality is very poor. The FREE LED turned out to cost me five dollars. This was a rip-off... This gizmo was a piece of cake to set up and use. The focusing ring has a huge range and it was easy to use. The software was a bit annoying to get used to and could be a bit friendlier but it's a great tool and darned useful. I just got this for Christmas and messed with it for about a day. Overall it is acceptable. The image quality looks like a cheap webcam when it comes over the video capture software, which happened to decide it wanted to control my TV card also. My only complaint is that the focal length is really short. I wanted to use it as a replacement for my loupes, magnifying glasses, etc. for when I do electronics and watch repair. The longest focal length I could get is about 1.5", not enough to get any decent tools under it. Also, the light from the LEDs is paltry, begging for a good hack to add some real lighting. It would be nice if someone came up with a lens kit that would allow you to get about 4"-6" between the scope and the object you are working on. Either way, it makes a nice USB microscope. I doubt you will find a cure for cancer with it, but it makes a nice gift to do inspection AFTER you finish some work. Average Rating:![]() |

Carson Micro Max Lighted MicroscopeReviewsThe product works as it says it will. My son uses it to look at fossils and other things of nature. Best of all it doesn't cost a lot. It is also small so it goes with him in his pocket. This was a toy. If that's what you are after, this is for you. If you want something that really works, pay a little more and buy something better. I bought a more expensive all plastic scope before I bought this one. This one has a much clearer image. I like the focusing ring but the magnification control is 'sticky'. Proper technique with these takes getting used to - a lot like the first time I ever used a real microscope. I found a sweet-spot at slightly over the minimum magnification that works well for me - I leave it at that setting and slowly move the view into position. My verdict is nice unit for the price. It works...no question. It is exactly what you pay for however. VERY cheap magnification. A steady hand on a still target... If you want practical use, this may not be for you. Searching for things like spider mites I found VERY difficult. The magnification is actually too high for quickly scanning leafs....even on its lowest setting. IF you found something, the combination of steadying the plant as well as the scope was a pretty big job. If the target was not directly in the center of your field of view, it was severely out of focus, and the "center" was off to the top right of what is actually dead center of my scope. Kinda fun...has a few uses, but not practical for anything but amusement. I bought one of these as a Christmas time stocking stuffer for my 11-year-old son, who loves science and loves to explore things ... but it turns out everyone in the family loves using this little device to look at the little wonders of the world. It's great for looking at leaves and coins and fabrics and dirt and fruit and anything else you can imagine, as long as it's got a flat surface that you can set this on straight. We've had a few bigger microscopes, but they rarely got much use, since they were delicate and you had to pack them away, and they tended only to work with slides, which required preparation. This one works on a whim: see something cool that you'd like to look at large and then whip this out and take a look. This little pocket microscope fits in your hand and combines some of the power of a microscope (magnifying up to 100x) with the handiness and ease of a magnifying glass. Note that the best place to focus is right at the bottom of the clear plastic base, and with the light included you can only see what's there on the flat surfaces of things. As another reviewer mentioned, to see bacteria or cells on slides you'd have to figure out how to hold them secure at the base and illuminate them from below with a flashlight or other light source. As is, though, it's a neat little science toy, that can produce some quite cool pictures, and is easy to carry around in the field. Highly recommended gadget for nature lovers, kids and geeks of all ages. Average Rating:![]() |
